We stayed with a family of friends visiting Korea for the first time from Japan. The cozy hanok with charming Korean accessories and a separate kitchen was perfect for us to chat and spend time together late into the evening. My Japanese friends loved it so much too.

While the hanok evoked nostalgic memories, it was clean with great water pressure and powerful air conditioning, making it a day that satisfied both sentiment and practicality.
We couldn't help but smile seeing every corner thoughtfully decorated, and we enjoyed the vintage atmosphere with the mother-of-pearl furniture.
There were props like traditional Korean gat hats for foreign guests to enjoy, but we also had a wonderful time chatting and enjoying them ourselves.
Though hanoks require meticulous maintenance, we stayed comfortably in a well-kept space without a trace of cobwebs!

I still remember how warmly the host welcomed us upon arrival at the accommodation.
First, the bedroom and kitchen were identical to the photos, and thoughtful touches like a first-aid kit and other essentials were well-prepared, making it a meticulous space. Everything was clean.
We had 6 people staying at this charming traditional Korean house, and we were very satisfied.
It's also close to Sinsuldong Station, and we will definitely visit again if we use accommodations in the area in the future.
However, please note that there is no separate parking lot, so you'll need to use the nearby alleyways.^^ For this reason, we recommend using public transportation. Although it was a short stay, it was a wonderful memory. Thank you so much.^^

Sihwadang's location was excellent, and we had no difficulty visiting Naksan Fortress Wall, Jongmyo Shrine, Cheonggyecheon, and Gwangjang Market on foot. Just like its beautiful name, Gamkkot was a modest and immaculate hanok, and all the bedrooms, bathrooms, and kitchen were kept so clean that we could feel the host's dedication. The heating worked wonderfully—the bedroom bed was warm and cozy, and the ondol room was equally comfortable. The persimmon tree in the courtyard had dried persimmons hanging from the eaves, and the host kindly invited us to pick and eat them whenever we wanted. My children and I had so much fun picking and eating the dried persimmons, and we fell in love with their sweet taste. Welcoming the new year while staying at Sihwadang with our family, we were able to feel comfort and the warmth of a cherished hometown. This is a place we would love to visit again anytime. Thank you so much for your warm hospitality and thoughtfulness. We wish Sihwadang to always be filled with happiness and good energy.

The owner was very friendly and the house was warm and nice

It was a private traditional Korean house (hanok) located in the heart of Seoul, the kind you'd see in a novel by author Park Wan-seo or a drama by writer Kim Soo-hyun. The entrance with "Sihwadang" written on it looks impressive too. Since the nearby Dongmyo Market closes when the sun sets, there aren't many people around at night, but there were quite a few Chinese visitors at the nearby convenience stores (they kept filming vlog-style videos ㅎ), probably because many Chinese tour groups come to the Dongdaemun N Hotel as packages. It's not dangerous, but it felt a bit scary walking alone or with just one other person, though it didn't feel eerie when we walked around in a group. There are nice bars near Dongmyo Station within about a 10-minute walk, and the location is excellent with Dongdaemun/Myeongdong/Seoul Station just 2-3 subway stops away. Inside the accommodation, there's a kitchen and a dining room (?) with a 6-person table that's like a separate building, so the sleeping and eating areas are nicely separated. It's the kind of hanok that foreigners would absolutely love. The bedding was clean and fresh, so everyone slept really well. However, the boiler room noise from the master bedroom (where the bed is) gets a bit loud in the middle of the night, and as it's a traditional hanok, you do notice a sewer smell when you open the bathroom door. The shower booth and sink are spotless with no mold at all! It's a private accommodation where the host clearly puts in a lot of effort to maintain. The host even gave us tangerines, but they gave us so many we couldn't finish them all ㅎ I highly recommend it!!
