Seoul Jongno-gu
Dongmyo Sungin-dong Hanok Sihwadang
Hello. This is Hanok Sihwadang.
hos insta : hanoksihwadang
1. This is a traditional hanok (Korean house) located near Dongmyo in Seongbuk-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul. The area features Cheonggyecheon, DDP, and Dongdaemun Market nearby, and on weekends you can enjoy browsing the Dongmyo flea market.
You can take walks along Naksan Fortress Wall and enjoy Seoul's night views, and it's convenient to visit palaces such as Gyeongbokgung and Changdeokgung.
2. Transportation: Dongmyo Station (Lines 1 & 6) and Sindong Station (Line 1, Ui-Sinseol Line, Line 2 branch) are 600M away, and airport buses and city buses are within 300M, making transportation very convenient.
3. The quiet and spacious hanok courtyard is the perfect space to spend comfortable and enjoyable time with family and friends.
4. There is a persimmon tree in the courtyard, allowing you to experience the changes of all four seasons. In autumn, the ripening persimmons and dried persimmons hanging from the eaves are my favorite Sihwadang-like scenery. I recommend enjoying your morning coffee while sitting on the wooden veranda in the morning sunlight, and I also encourage you to experience the evening ambiance of the courtyard.
Accommodation
This is a traditional hanok built during the modernization process in the 1960s when Seoul's population began to concentrate. You can experience the blend of traditional hanok style with the changes of the modernization era.
The persimmon tree in the courtyard adds charm as you experience the seasonal changes.
I recommend the experience of sitting on the wooden veranda with rustling leaves in the morning sunlight, sipping morning coffee while lost in thought.
On weekends, the flea market opens.
You can browse secondhand goods and antiques while enjoying various local foods, and you can easily walk to popular spots like Gwangjang Market, Dongdaemun Market, and DDP, which are popular with both locals and tourists.
A walk along Cheonggyecheon, just 100m away, is wonderful day or night. I also recommend strolling through the alleyways of Naksan Fortress Wall, Ihwa-dong Mural Village, and up to Dongmangbong.
Palaces such as Gyeongbokgung, Changdeokgung, Changgyeonggung, and Deoksugung are easily accessible by subway or bus within 20-30 minutes.
Visiting Dongmyo (Donggwanwang Temple) near Sihwadang, which enshrines Guan Yu, will also be a memorable experience.
Guest-Accessible Spaces/Facilities
Our accommodation is a traditional hanok.
You can use the courtyard, main bedroom, guest room, side room, wooden veranda, and kitchen.
Our home is exclusively used by one team of guests independently.
We recently renovated and now have 2 bathrooms with showers connected to the bedrooms, and 1 toilet available for use in the courtyard.
The kitchen has also been newly built and can be used as a dining space.
Although the outside feels like the city, the moment you step through the front gate, it feels like you've arrived at your grandmother's house—you'll experience a complete contrast. You'll feel the quiet and coziness.

We had a great time staying at this hanok. It was perfect for us 6 ladies. We were celebrating 60th birthday for 2 of us. Mrs Shin, the host, finding out that we were celebrating birthdays , got us a cake and candles. She also had banners up for us. So thoughtful. She communicated with us directly on how to get to her place. She speak good English. She also arrange for a private transport for us to the airport. Inexpensive and saved us the hassle. There are many good local restaurants around the area. We had the loveliest of time. Thank you so much again, Mrs Shin.
We stayed with a family of friends visiting Korea for the first time from Japan. The cozy hanok with charming Korean accessories and a separate kitchen was perfect for us to chat and spend time together late into the evening. My Japanese friends loved it so much too.
We had a wonderful stay! The host was incredibly kind, responsive, and thoughtful from the very beginning. She provided detailed directions for both taxi and subway, met us when we arrived, and made us feel very welcome.
The traditional hanok was clean, comfortable, and exactly as described. It was a great place to experience a different side of Seoul while still being convenient for transportation. The host also recommended nearby places to visit, which made our trip even more enjoyable.
Thank you for your warm hospitality. We would definitely stay here again and highly recommend this place to other travelers!
A night at a traditional Korean hanok in Dongmyo, Seoul with our elders.
While the hanok evoked nostalgic memories, it was clean with great water pressure and powerful air conditioning, making it a day that satisfied both sentiment and practicality.
We couldn't help but smile seeing every corner thoughtfully decorated, and we enjoyed the vintage atmosphere with the mother-of-pearl furniture.
There were props like traditional Korean gat hats for foreign guests to enjoy, but we also had a wonderful time chatting and enjoying them ourselves.
Though hanoks require meticulous maintenance, we stayed comfortably in a well-kept space without a trace of cobwebs!
Thank you so much for being so kind—I felt great from the moment I checked in.
I really appreciate you recommending great restaurants, cafes, and things to see in the area. The location is wonderful.
The accommodation was in such great condition that I slept really well.
I'd love to visit again the next time I travel.
